A new version of the sci-fi Chinese straddle bus that seems to levitate above traffic has been unveiled at the Beijing International High-Tech Expo. The new bus system (that actually looks more like a train) is fully electrically powered and boasts both quick construction and significantly lower costs than traditional subway train systems. The straddle bus carries up to 1,400 passengers and is designed to travel at 60kph while regular auto and other vehicle traffic flows along on roads beneath it. Though only a model was shown at the Expo, a full size straddle bus is in construction and is to move into the testing phase in a as yet to be announced northern Chinese city this summer. The original straddle bus was first developed in 2010 by Shenzhen Huashi Future Parking Equipment Co., Ltd.
