The Beijing Municipal Education Commission announced last week that air purification systems would be installed in some of the city's schools and kindergartens with immediate effect and that the city government would be allocating money to help the schools cover the cost of the installation. Schools and other education institutions in the city have been ordered to stop outdoor courses and activities until the smog lets up. Beijing has been plagued by extremely bad air pollution this past week, as have other regions in China. Suzhou has been at unhealthy levels all week, though nowhere near as high as Beijing’s China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
