Yangcheng Lake is located in the northeast of Suzhou, bordering Suzhou old city center, the SIP, Xiangcheng District, and Kunshan City. It is one of the important fresh water lakes in Jiangsu province. It covers an area of 120 square kilometers and consists of West Lake, Middle Lake and East Lake. East Lake is the biggest and is 1.7-2.5 meters deep. The depth of the Middle Lake and the West Lake is 1.5-3.0 meters. Yangcheng Lake is rich in aquatic resources. It contains seventy kinds of freshwater products, such as white fish, silver carp, fresh water shrimp, and crabs. Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs are also known as "king of the crabs” and are renowned at home and abroad.
It’s said that you haven’t been to Yangcheng Lake if you haven't been to Lotus Island. Lotus Island is located in the central area of the lake, covering an area of about 3 square kilometers. It looks like a lotus flower in full bloom, hence the name "lotus island". It’s a leisure resort and offers a wide variety of services to tourists and hikers, as well as catering to family outings and corporate conferences. Lotus Island has become one of the ten major rural ecological tourism attractions in Suzhou. Every year from mid-March, there is a Rapeseed Festival at Lotus Island and in June / July the Grain Art Festival is held there.
Yangcheng Lake crabs have always been known as the king of crabs because of the special ecological environment of the lake. With its hundred-kilometer radius of clear and clean water, it is the ideal place for the growth of crabs.
