Xitang is located in Jiashan County, Zhejiang Province. The ancient name of the town is Xietang, Pingchuan. It is one of just six ancient towns in the Jiangnan region. Xitang has a total area of 83.61 square kilometers and the ancient town is 1.04 square kilometers. It has a population of nearly 86 thousand. Xitang has a long history, rich cultural resources and beautiful natural scenery, and is considered one of the birthplaces of ancient Wu Yue culture. Xitang is rated a national AAAA grade tourist attraction, and has also hosted scores of tv crews as a popular film and television location.
Xitang is famous for having many bridges, many alleys and many Langpeng (long-extended rooves). You can walk the town without umbrellas rain or shine.
